- I want to play, how do I find a team?
- NMSSA is not a league. It the state-level organizing body for adult amateur soccer in the New Mexico. The NMSSA’s authority is derived from its affiliation with the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) and United States Soccer Federation, Inc. (USSF), which is affiliated with the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). In order to join a team start by contacting the league in your area. A listing of the NMSSA's member leagues can be found here.
- Why should I play in an NMSSA affiliated league?
- Many local soccer leagues have decided to join the New Mexico State Soccer Association (NMSSA). The NMSSA is a State Association, and is a member of the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA). In turn, the USASA is a member of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).
These administrative bodies work together towards the overall development of soccer within the United States. There are numerous programs available to players and teams in affiliated leagues.
Players playing in the NMSSA are covered under USASA insurance program. For more information you can read about our insurance coverage here. Be aware that if you choose to play in a non-sanctioned league any injury you receive on the practice or playing fields may not be insured.
NMSSA actively supports our affiliated tournaments. In addition, we run the Elite Player Program qualifying players for the National Elite Player Camp. You must be a USASA registered player to participate in either of these programs.
Finally, the State Association works to promote friendship and consistency across its member leagues, players, and teams. Through this impartial governing body, teams and leagues can participate in a legitimate appeals process.
- Does the NMSSA run tournaments?

- How do I affiliate a tournament?
- If your league is sponsoring or holding a tournament that you would like to be sanctioned by NMSSA, please contact our Tournament Director Yvonne Garcia by sending a message from our contact page. Choose "Tournaments" in the Category list. Failure to submit a form could jeopardize insurance coverage for players participating in your tournament. We appreciate your cooperation as we implement this procedure!
- How do I get "Travel Papers" to travel to an out-of-state tournament?
- "Travel Papers" are authorization from your USASA-affiliated state association to enter a tournament sanctioned by another USASA-affiliated state association. The "Travel Papers" certify that all of your players are registered with USASA.
- Convert the your roster to a Microsoft Excel file, listing team name, player last name, first name, and date of birth for each player.
- Send the Excel file to Mike Edwards
- The NMSSA Registrar will verify the player list, then, if all the players are properly registered, the NMSSA will issue the travel letter.
- The NMSSA will attach the list of the players that have been verified to the travel letter
